This year, I had a lot of time at home to be able to do things I probably wouldn’t have otherwise done. One of those was watching lots of movies. For these final days of 2021 I wanted to reflect on my favorite movies that I watched this year. These movies come from every genre, so there is a choice for everyone! Check out my top three movie picks along with my full list down below!
#1: Shawshank Redemption (1994)
This movie starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins takes the first place award for this epic based on the Stephen King novel. This is the classic story of hope through even the most difficult circumstances. Robbins and Freeman have unmatched chemistry which makes the movie even more powerful. The little clues throughout the movie set it up to seem like a puzzle, which ultimately is solved in the end. The soundtrack and layout of the movie brought it all together for me, giving this movie my overall #1 spot.
#2: Jerry Maguire (1996)
Everyone needs a good romantic movie once in a while. Even better is a romantic movie with Tom Cruise in the lead role. However, Jerry Maguire is special because of the message it delivers: even when you fall, it is not impossible to get back up. This seems difficult for sports agent Jerry Maguire, an emotionally-unavailable agent who has to “show the money” to comedic supporting character Cuba Gooding Jr. The hesitant chemistry between Cruise and Renee Zellweger along with the dynamic plot gave this movie the number-two spot on my list but number-one romantic drama.
#3: A Time To Kill (1996)
The 1990s really dominate this list with my number-three starring Matthew McConaghey, Sandra Bullock, and Samuel L. Jackson in the main roles. This classic courtroom thriller shows the importance of truth, integrity, and sticking behind the people who matter most. McConaughey’s hesitant nature along with the confident Bullock helped make this movie unbelievably powerful. The dramatic monologues and inspiring script paired with the beautiful delivery by the cast took this movie to my number-three spot and remains to be my all-time favorite courtroom drama.
